The Department of Biology was established in 1929 when a renowned botanist R.C. Thomas joined Murray College as a lecturer in Biology. He taught biology to Intermediate class, till he became the first national and Botanist Principal of the college. He loved plants & flowers very deeply. He brought different new species of plants to Sialkot. Mr. Vergies accompanied him as a lecturer in Biology from 1941 to 1946. Muhammad Ali Shah acted as The Head of The Biology Department from 1956 to 1961.

He was followed by Ch. Munawar Ahmed, who remained the Head of department from 1961 to 1978. He left the college on his promotion as an Associate Professor. He had been a very popular teacher and a very good administrator. The teaching staff of this Deptt. also included Prof. Gul Pervez and Vincent Javed Atta Ullah. Prof. Ch. Munawar Ahmed started the B.Sc. pre-medical Class in 1977. He got retired in 1989 as The Principal of Govt. Jinnah Islamia College, Sialkot. Professor Vincent Javed Atta Ullah took the place of Prof. Ch. Munawar Ahmed in 1978. He left this college in 1979. He got retired in 2005 as an Associate Professor from Govt. College, Asghar Mall, Rawalpindi. Professor Umar Farooq Minhas was the next Head of The Biology Department, i.e., From 1979 to 1982, before leaving for Saudi Arabia. He taught at a Pakistani College at Al-Khuber, till 2004. Prof. Shaukat Mahmood , Prof. Pervez Ahmed Rizvi, Prof. Ch.Zulfiqar Ahmed, Prof. Muhammad Yusaf Rondawa and Prof. Qamar Malik were the working teachers in those days.
Prof. Altaf Hussain Jafri was the most popular and loving teacher of the era. He remained Head of the Department in 1982 after coming form Nigeria, he settled at Wah Cantt and got transferred to Govt. College, Asghar Mall, Rawalpindi. He died during his service. He was followed by Kanwar Shoaib who also returned from Nigeria. He stayed for a short period,and was transferred to F.C. College, Lahore. Prof. Riaz Sadiq, who also returned from Nigeria, succeeded him.
Prof. Qamar Malik took over as Head of the Department in 1988 after his direct selection by The Punjab Public Service Commission as an Assistant Professor. He worked in this capacity till 1995, when Prof. Riaz Sadiq joined as Head, owing to his anti date promotion. He was an intellectual botanist. The working staff, in those days, also included Prof. Shaukat Mahmood, Prof. S. Pervez Rizvi, Prof. Mohsin Ali, Prof. Zulifqar Ali and Prof. Dr. Qaisar Rashid. Prof. Riaz Sadiq became The Vice Principal in 2001 and, then, The Principal of The College in 2002. He got retired on 14.06.2005 as the second botanist Principal of The College.
Prof. Qamar Malik again became the Head of the Department in 2001. He became the third botanist and the fourteenth Principal of the College, vacating the post of The Head of The Deptt. for Prof. Shaukat Mahmood in 2005.
